Whales In Sitka, Alaska

Spring in Southeast Alaska means one thing—whales. As herring flood the waters around Sitka each March, humpbacks arrive right behind them. Working together, they create “bubble nets,” circling schools of herring and blowing bubbles to trap them before surging to the surface with mouths wide open. It’s one of the most unique feeding behaviors on the planet, and it happens right here. If you find yourself in Sitka in March or April, it’s something you have to see for yourself.
